blackboard eats

image via blackboardeats.com

i get/delete so much junk email everyday, but when i see an email in my inbox from blackboardeats.com i ALWAYS open it. it's free and when you sign up this amazing site will send you incredibly delicious deals (30% off your meal, free appetizers, free bottle of wine etc.) from some of your city's best restaurants every week. if you live in NY, LA , or San Francisco and like a deal you have 24 hours or less to click on the “get this special” button and receive your personal BlackboardEats passcode:

image via blackboardeats.com
once you click "get this special" a passcode that is good for one-time use will be emailed to you immediately and can be applied to your entire bill or purchase at unbelievable restaurants around your city (i've used my codes to receive 30% off at NYC restaurants such as Boqueria, Five Points, and Tia Pol)...so, just mention your passcode to the host at the restaurant when you make a reservation OR to your waiter/waitress when you arrive.

all you need to do now is sign up, click on the deal, and enjoy your meal!

how to rock.....a leather jacket

the window for wearing a leather jacket in new york city is rather small. these next few weeks of autumn are the perfect time to take yours out and put on a big comfy scarf, a worn in tee, or juxtapose them with some of the more feminine pieces in your closet. here are a few of my current inspriations:

mad for plaid

image via stylecaster.com
something about plaid reminds me of going back to school and the impending cold weather. it makes me want to wrap myself in something warm and cozy whether it be a plaid cashmere scarf, cotton cape, or wool coat. but, if you're not ready to surrender to your winter gear just yet, MINX nails has a pair of plaid nail coverings that are amazing....they last for up to 2 weeks, so treat yourself and get the ultimate fall manicure at any bliss spa in NYC...

supercook

do you ever feel like you want to cook, but you don't know what to make? you bounce a few ideas around, but nothing comes to fruition and you end up eating some weird combination of the things you have in your fridge. well, i used to have this experience all too often (apparently hummus doesn't count as dinner), that is until SUPERCOOK came into my life...

image via supercook.com

with this amazing and easy to use site you just enter the ingredients you have in your kitchen i.e. “chicken” or "mushrooms" into the box on the left and click:

(you can even highlight a certain ingredient to make it the centerpiece of your meal)

supercook allows you to make quicker decisions about what recipes to make and what ingredients to use so you can waste less food, use up any perishable ingredients you have at home, and save yourself time & money.

what are you going to cook tonight?

inspiration incorporation

image via Vanity Fair
ever since Boardwalk Empire debuted on HBO i've found myself being influenced by the fashions of the shows leading ladies.....beaded dresses, beautiful hats, red lipstick, and cropped fur coats are just a few of the prohibition era accessories i'm coveting this fall...

one item i am constantly drawn to would have to be a feminine, 1920's inspired pair of t-strap or ankle strap pumps....here are a few enviable, and a few attainable modern day options:

grub street

i love food. i love nymag. so making the trip yesterday down to the lower east side for the 2010 Grub Street Food Festival was a no-brainer. NYmag teamed up with the Hester Street Fair to showcase what the best of New York's food trucks, street vendors, and restaurants have to offer.

i joined the hungry masses on the corner of Hester and Essex for a chance to enjoy some truly unique and delicious treats...

a cup of coffee from kickstand:

a palette of macarons from the macaron parlour:

i thought these were little cupcakes...they're actually organic dog treats courtesy of Naya and Mila's :

grilled cheese with tomato jam and red onions from The Smile:

chocolate sugar cookie & pistachio ice cream sandwich from melt bakery

....don't worry, if you missed the Grub Street Food Festival a lot of the same fantastic vendors will be serving their food again today and every weekend until December at the Hester Street Fair.

chiddy chiddy bang bang

after meeting at Drexel University in 2008 as freshmen, the multi-talented duo known as Chiddy Bang uploaded a mixtape entitled "The Swelly Express" onto their MySpace page. The album spread like wildfire and led to over 100,000 downloads in less than a month.
after signing to Parlaphone/Virgin Records, the band released their debut single, the MGMT sampling hit "The Opposite of Adults" earlier this year. The track quickly moved up the charts across the world and the video presently has over 7 million views on YouTube.
Chiddy Bang is comprised of rapper Chiddy and producer Xaphoon Jones and this genre bending duo just digitally released a prequel to their forthcoming debut album entitled "The Preview" on October 12, 2010.

"The Preview" is an eight song album and documents the incredible journey the group has had over the last year, starting from underground parties and graduating to performances at the biggest festivals in the world including Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and headlining their own tour across the nation.

because of the positive feedback and fans such as myself wanting new material from the group, Chiddy Bang decided to quench our thirst with "The Preview" while they finish recording their debut album "The Swelly Life" which is due at the end of October 2010.

here are a few of my favorite tracks---they are already on my ipod, and should be on yours too:

and because any version of this song makes me infinitely happy:  the f*ck you remix

these should hold you over until "The Swelly Life" drops...
